This week in Portland, Leadership Love reminded me why we gather in the first place. It wasn’t a conference about utilization or profit margins. It was about heartbreak, resilience, connection, and remembering that even when things get hard, sometimes unbearably hard, we can’t simply disappear. We have to keep showing up for each other.

There’s something in the air lately. A slow leak. A collective sigh. I’ve been in dozens of conversations with agency leaders over the past few months who are struggling. Some whose businesses are thriving, some trying to stay afloat, some who are contemplating closing shop. And no matter where they are on the curve, there’s a heaviness they struggle to explain.

Last week in Slack, the topic of cashflow came up. It often does. Because no matter how seasoned you are, money in and money out is the one thing that can knock any agency sideways. The trap? A healthy bank balance can lull us into thinking everything’s just fine... until... it suddenly isn’t! That’s why forecasting isn’t optional. It’s essential regardless of how well things seem. 

Every week in The Bureau Slack, someone asks about the “best” AI tool for a specific need. And every week, we see the same challenge: it’s hard to know which apps are true tools and which are just toys. The truth is, the wrong choice can waste time, burn budget, and frustrate your team. The right one can unlock efficiency and confidence.

The impact of team members changing roles came up as a hot topic in Slack last week, and it caught my attention. Change inside an agency is inevitable. People join, move on, shift roles. Clients don’t just notice, they feel it. And because they often pattern on the first person they meet, those changes can rattle confidence if we don’t handle them well. The real challenge isn’t the transition itself, it’s keeping clients assured that nothing important is slipping.

Last week we shared our new website which really embodies our shared purpose. To provide support to those in our industry that need it. Thanks for the wonderful feedback and new suggestions. This new website feels like the first domino falling.

Over the weekend I took the time to pause and reflect on what makes this community so special. As we continue to grow, welcome new voices, and face new challenges, it's important that we have a common understanding of why The Bureau exists. So today I'm eager to share with you our new community guidelines.
